Tom Hicks

Thomas R. Hicks, 59, of 1005 West Third St., Oil City, died at 3:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at UPMC Northwest, Franklin. 

Born Jan. 28, 1945, in Oil City, he was the son of Robert Leroy and Lois G. Collins Hicks. 

Mr. Hicks attended Oil City schools and graduated from Oil City High School in 1963. He graduated from New Castle Business School with an associate degree in business administration. 

He served in the U.S. Air Force at Lockbourne AFB in Columbus, Ohio, as an administrative assistant from 1963-67.  Mr. Hicks was employed by Wolf’s Head and Pennzoil as a purchasing manager, production manager and plant manager from 1974 until he retired in 2001. 

He was an avid turkey hunter and enjoyed bowling and fishing. 

On March 5, 1966, he married the former Gail Kulling, who survives.  Also surviving are two daughters, Tami Jones of Oil City and Kori Seneca and her husband, Pat, of Erie; two sons, T. R. Hicks and his wife, Carissa, of Grove City, and Dan Hicks of Erie; five grandchildren, Ashley and Amanda Jones, Aden Horner, Mykaela Seneca and Tyler Hicks; a sister, Sally Proper and her husband, Carl, of Chapmanville; a brother-in-law, Larry Weaver of Rushford, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Judy Kulling and Linda Hicks of Oil City; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hicks was preceded in death by a sister, Dorrie Weaver; and a brother, Robert Hicks. 

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Morrison Funeral Home.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen Church.  Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Visiting Nurses Association of Venango County or the American Cancer Society.

Nancy Lynn Henderson Davis

Nancy Lynn Henderson Davis, 60, of Bakersfield, Calif., formerly of Oil City, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at her home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born May 25, 1945, in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of Lester and Cynthia Schnitzer Henderson, who returned to Oil City after a short stay in Ohio.

She was a 1963 graduate of Oil City High School and shortly after her graduation, she moved to Colorado where she received her bachelor of science degree in accounting from Metro State College in Denver.

Mrs. Davis met her husband, Tim Davis, in Colorado and they were married Dec. 6, 1975. He survives.

She worked for Mobil Oil as a senior accounting analyst for more than 20 years. She then took a position as an accounting instructor at Santa Barbara Business College where she worked for the last eight years.

Mrs. Davis also started and ran a successful Web site that allowed children and parents to rate teachers in the United States, Canada, the U.K. and Ireland.

She loved interacting with her students and spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her father, Lester Henderson of Oil City; a grandson, Dylan Davis of Bakersfield, Calif.; and cousins, Lorrene Wagner and Diana Wise, both of Franklin, Rita Truitt, Tom Schnitzer and Larry Henderson, all of Oil City, and Linda Dempsey of Raleigh, N.C.

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her only child, Brian Timothy Davis, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident Nov. 5, 2003; and her mother, Cynthia Henderson.

A memorial service for friends and family will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Bakersfield Central Adventist Church, 4201 Wilson Road, Bakersfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to PanCan (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network), 2141 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 7000, El Segundo, Calif., 90245.

Douglas L. Anthony

Douglas L. Anthony, 61, of 1205 Grandview Road, Oil City, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, Aug. 26, 2006, at his residence.

Born Feb. 13, 1945, in Oil City, he was the son of Budd Raymond and Kathleen E. Horne Anthony.

Mr. Anthony was a 1963 graduate of Oil City High School.

He retired from the Oil City Hospital where he was a medical/surgical technician.

Mr. Anthony was a member of the Cornplanter Volunteer Fire Department.

He enjoyed NASCAR, Steelers football, classic cars, hunting and fishing. He loved to cook and spend time with his family and grandchildren.

On December 11, 1968, Mr. Anthony married the former Judith Fisher, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Scott Douglas Anthony, Todd Patrick Anthony and wife, Tammy M., and Thomas Russell Kahl and wife, Crystal D., all of Oil City; four grandchildren, Danielle LeeAnn Anthony, Nicole Ruth Anthony, Jesse Patrick Anthony and Chloe Leighanne Kahl, all of Oil City; and his schnauzer, Kinzie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kirksy Nelson Anthony.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Morrison Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Cornplanter Volunteer Fire Department or to the Venango County Blind Association.

Jean Collins McClellan

Jean Marie “Jeannie” McClellan, 61, of 105 Wilson Ave., Oil City, died of renal failure at 10:26 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca.

Born July 1, 1945, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Errol and Sylvia Walters Collins.

Mrs. McClellan was a 1963 graduate of Oil City High School.

She enjoyed family, especially her grandchildren and great-granddaughter, and also angels.

Mrs. McClellan was married to Earl Joseph McClellan, who survives.

Also surviving are five children, Brenda Baker of Oil City, Missy Asche and husband, Rob, of Fertigs, Jerry McClellan Jr. and wife, Charlotte, of Franklin, Earl McClellan and wife, Valerie, of Oil City and Beverlee McClellan of Texas; 11 grandchildren, Corey Baker and fiancée, Kendra Cramer, of Cooperstown, Adrian Baker of Oil City, Eric Asche and Evan Asche of Fertigs, Alexis McClellan and Matthew McClellan of Oil City, Samantha Hamler, Ryan Hamler and Alex McClellan of Alabama, and Caitlyn Muroski and Ashley Muroski of Texas; and a great-granddaughter, Catryna Baker of Cooperstown.

Also surviving are a brother, James Collins and wife of Erie; and two nieces, Shannon Collins of Erie and Erin Vargus of Washington .

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Morrison Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Kitelinger, pastor of the Venus United Evangelical Church, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials donations be made to help with expenses.

Louise Marie Olsofka  

On Monday, June 11, 2007, age 62, a Felician Sister of the Coraopolis Province for 44 years. Sister Louise was a teacher in the Grade and High Schools in the Diocese of Pittsburgh and surrounding area. She served as Assistant Principal at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School from 1995 to 1998. From 1995 until the time of her death Sr. Louise was the Director of Vocations for the Province. Daughter of the late Nicholas and Nellie (Woloszyn) Olsofka. Sister of Frank (Wyvonne) Olsofka of KY and Anna Marie Larkin and Betty Gardiner both of Oil City; also nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Friends received in the Provincial House, 1500 Woodcrest Ave., Coraopolis on Wed. and Thurs. 2-8 p.m. All are invited to a sharing of memories Thurs. 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial Fri. 10:30 am in the Convent Chapel . A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Parish on Pulaski St. in Oil City, PA Sat., June 16, 11 am. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Felician Sisters Retirement Fund.
